#LongboxDiving: Incredible Hulk no. 1 tribute covers

When The Incredible Hulk no. 1 appeared in May 1962, only to be canceled the following year after the sixth issue, no one likely knew just how iconic Jack Kirby’s cover art would become.

Of course, that initial cancellation was a bit premature. The Hulk soon took over half of Tales to Astonish, which was retitled The Incredible Hulk as a solo book with issue 102. He has since been one of the most popular characters Marvel has ever had.

Here are a few of the covers that have paid tribute to this original over the years:

Incredible Hulk_2_324
The Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) no. 324 (Oct. 1986)
Incredible Hulk_2_393
The Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) no. 393 (May 1992)
Incredible Hulk_2_425
The Incredible Hulk (vol. 2) no. 425 (Jan. 1995)
Incredible Hulk_3_32
The Incredible Hulk (vol. 3) no. 32 (Nov. 2001)
What_If_2_91
What If … ? (Vol. 2) no. 91 (Nov. 1996)
What_If_Gen_Ross
What If General Ross Had Become the Hulk? (one-shot) (Feb. 2005)

Okay, so this next one is not really a tribute in the traditional sense, but it is twisted twist on the original transformation:

Incredible Hulk_3_19
The Incredible Hulk (vol. 3) no. 19 (Oct. 2000)
